Fire Hazard

About 185,000 Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTAC) and Heat Pumps (PTHP) contain an electric heater in the units that can break, causing a fire hazard. Although it is officially listed as a product of Carrier Corp of Farmingtion, Conn., it is manufactured in Mexico.

They were sold by HVAC dealers and factory-direct sales from January 2002 through December 2006 for between $425 and $675.

Once again, it appears that American consumers are the guiney pigs to determine the safety of products branded by an American Company yet manufactured in a foreign country that does not regulate working conditions, fair pay or reasonable inspection of the safety of the products.
